From Paddy to Plate: The Surya Foods Story
Discover how Surya Foods grew from a small milling unit in Haryana to one of India's leading Basmati rice exporters, serving 15+ countries over 25 years.
From Paddy to Plate: The Surya Foods Story
In 2002, in the heart of India’s rice belt, a small milling unit began operations with a bold vision — to deliver the highest quality Basmati rice to every corner of the globe. That unit was the seed of what would become Surya Foods, one of India’s most trusted names in premium rice manufacturing and export.
The Early Years (2002–2007)
The journey began with a single-line milling operation, processing locally sourced paddy from the fertile fields surrounding Karnal — often called the “Rice Bowl of India.” From the very first batch, the focus was clear: quality over quantity.
While many competitors chased volume, Surya Foods invested in precision milling technology and rigorous quality checks. Every grain that left the facility had to meet exacting standards for length, aroma, moisture content, and purity.
This commitment didn’t go unnoticed. Within five years, we had built a reputation among domestic buyers as a reliable, quality-first supplier.
Going Global (2004–2012)
In 2004, Surya Foods made its first international shipment — a container of premium 1121 Basmati Rice bound for the Middle East. It was a turning point.
The response was overwhelming. Our rice spoke for itself — the extraordinary grain length, the unmistakable aroma, the perfect cooking characteristics. Repeat orders followed, and soon we were shipping to multiple countries across the Gulf region.
By 2008, we had achieved FSSAI certification, and by 2012, the prestigious ISO 22000:2018 certification for our food safety management system. These weren’t just badges — they were proof that our processes met the highest international standards.
Scaling with Purpose (2012–2021)
The next decade was about scaling without sacrificing quality. We invested heavily in infrastructure:
- State-of-the-art sortex machines for color sorting and foreign matter removal
- Automated milling lines capable of processing 50,000+ MT annually
- In-house quality laboratories for comprehensive batch testing
- Modern warehousing with climate-controlled storage
In 2015, we were recognized as an established export house under DGFT — a milestone that validated our consistent export excellence.
By 2021, we felt confident enough in our quality to launch 048 Premium Rice, our flagship direct-to-consumer brand. The Majesty and Platinum collections brought the same B2B quality standards to Indian households.
